Registered Practical Nurse

Job Description

The Registered Practical Nurse provides professional nursing care to clients following established nursing care plans and practices and required medical care.



Job Type: Part-time and Full-time


  1. To assess client home care needs, initiate visits, and the development of an appropriate plan of care that identifies care objectives and anticipated outcomes as applicable;
  2. To conduct follow-up visits/calls with clients to ensure the service provided meets the client’s needs and adheres to Arcadia Home Care quality standards;
  3. To participate in the implementation of administrative policies and procedures relating to safe and effective client care;
  4. To assist in a recruit, train, developing, supervising & performance managing staff
  5. To plan and organize orientations and in-service education programs;
  6. To promote Arcadia Home Care through visiting referral sources, community involvement, committee participation, and events;
  7. To act as a clinical resource for staff;
  8. To lead/attend regular staff meetings and foster teamwork;
  9. To address work-related issues and keep staff updated on new information affecting client home care;
  10. To respond on time to complaints, compliments, and any discrepancies, and ensure effective resolution as required;
  11. To collaborate with multidisciplinary team members as appropriate: physicians, community agencies, home support providers, etc.;
  12. To maintain an effective working relationship with the directors, managers, and coordinators, and relay relevant facts regarding clients and client home care staff;
  13. To evaluate care delivery to ensure the service provided meets the client’s needs, service purchaser’s contractual requirements, and the company’s quality standards;
  14. To consult and participate in Client Care Conferences as needed to ensure high-quality care;
  15. To maintain current certification for Basic Cardiac Life Support & current registration in good standing with the provincial regulatory body;
  16. To establish staffing patterns/volumes that promote safe, quality client care;
  17. To ensure that professional, high-quality standards are maintained by all staff providing care;
  18. To promote staff development and provide an opportunity for continuing education;
  19. To uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Arcadia Home Care’s Code of Conduct; and 
  20. To complete all other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PSW/RPN/RN Certificate or equivalent from a recognized educational institution
  • Updated Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification
  • Current Medical TB Clearance
  • Available to work flexible hours (Multiple shifts available)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving, and observation abilities
  • Assertive and can come with a plan to engage the client.
  • Empathetic to the clients’ needs
  • Must understand the basics of good sanitation and sterile techniques to avoid infection or the spread of contagious illness
  • Experience in dealing with Dementia and Alzheimer’s is an asset.
